These 3D models have a special place amongst all the 3D scans I've made over the years : they are positive 3D models created from moulds on display at the Louvre museum.Several moulds used for pastry or bread are on display: made out of terracotta, they were found in the royal palace of Mari (ancient Syria). While visiting the Louvre, I 3D scanned several of these moulds, and created a positive model out of them. I had to tweak the scans a little bit in order to fill some holes and cracks, but I tried do keep the 3D models as close as I could to the originals artifacts, which is why some defects are still visible (such as a huge "scar" on the round one, which was broken when archeologists found it). I then 3D printed these shapes, and used them to create my own moulds using food-grade silicone. In other words, and unless scientists at the Louvre had a similar idea before me, I've been the fist person to create food using those specific shapes since they were buried ages ago (they date back to the early IId millennium BC). I like the idea of connecting with the past using 3D scanning and 3D printing, and I would like to keep doing so : If I win, I'd I'd love to go to London : this would allow me to scan monuments, as well as artifacts from the British Museum (where several ancient moulds are apparently on display!) and the National History Museum. This would allow me not only to share more 3D models with the world, but also to work on more projects at the intersection of history and technology.
