Vertumnus, the Roman god of orchards, and his wife Pomona, the goddess of fruit trees, form a pair of terms (square pillars surmounted by busts). They were created by the sculptor Francois Barois from models by Francois Girardon; intended for the park of the Chateau de Versailles, they were never put in place. They joined the King's Antiquities at the Louvre and, from 1722 onwards, adorned the Tuileries Garden.
