The occidental façade of the Cathedral presents a great amount of decorative elements executed with bas relief techniques. The iconography of this lintel has been inspired by “La Chanson De Roland” which has been written around 1090. The idea of representing these scenes probably comes from Girard II, main sponsor of the Cathedral and artist involved in the liberation of Saragossa. The story is told through this architectural piece: the archbishop Turpin spurs the Saracen Abime, Roland mutilate Marsile, king of the unfaithful. Foliage and natural elements decorate the upper part of the lintel.
