This limewood sculpture of Saint Barbara was created out of Limewood and is originally from Augsburg in Germany, carved about 1510. The exceptionally fine details of this sculpture suggest that the figure was not intended to be fully painted. The cameo-like buttons on her mantle depict Hercules and the centaur Nessus, symbols of Barbara's strength. The sculpture is also remarkable for the dynamic rendering of the drapery, likely the result of Italian Renaissance influences in Augsburg during the early sixteenth century.   This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, colloquially "the Met", is located in New York City and is the largest art museum in the United States, and is among the most visited art museums in the world. Its permanent collection contains over two million works, divided among seventeen curatorial departments. The main building, on the eastern edge of Central Park along Manhattan's Museum Mile, is by area one of the world's largest art galleries. A much smaller second location, The Cloisters at Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan, contains an extensive collection of art, architecture, and artifacts from Medieval Europe.
