We may suppose this statue of a man lying on his side is of the Etruscan period. Indeed, the Etruscans were those who most developped and used this type of model. Such poses may be found in their funeral art: they implemented the custom of representing the deceased on their sarcophagus – a custom later taken over by the Romans.
