Panelling from the hôtel d'Humières - 88 rue de Lille 1715-35. One of four large panels with a central rosette (E and W ends) 1717-20: Cats 82-85. Produced in France This door from the Waddesdon Manor is typical of the Baroque style. Indeed, if the rest of the Manor is rather in a Neogothic architecture, the interior design resembles the Italian Baroque, which followed the Renaissance in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Baroque movement's specificity is that it is dominated by unicity: all parts participate to one whole. That is why there is unicity in the motifs of Baroque which creates a harmony typical of this movement.   Panel, 1717-1720; Waddesdon (National Trust) Bequest of James de Rothschild, 1957; acc.no. 3580.3.1-4.Photo: Eost & Macdonald © National Trust Waddesdon Manor
