The original of these casts belonged to a set of eight bas-reliefs that decorated the bases of the two buttresses of the facade of the south portal illustrating the life of Saint Stephen. Without having any direct relevance to the life of the Holy Martyr, the scenes in the quadrilobes illustrate the life of an unidentified  saint and that of the students in the cloister school of Notre Dame. The delicate figures, with their thin arms and legs and angular movements, slide between the arcs and angles of the quidrilobes.
